Survivor Reclaims Herself With Her Boudoir Session

Updated: Sep 17, 2022

Why did you choose Bruce Caines Photography for your boudoir experience?

I loved the photos on the website and was also impressed with Bruce's commitment to giving back to the community. As a teacher in NYC, this is an important factor in my life.

What was your favorite thing about your session?

I loved how comfortable Bruce (and Carmilla, the hair and makeup stylist) made me feel with myself in front of a camera. I decided to have this photoshoot to celebrate a new chapter of my life and Bruce absolutely turned that idea into a reality. The album tells the story of my new journey and where I am now - enjoying my new self and identity.

Were you nervous about your boudoir session?

I was only nervous about how to "pose". I loved Bruce's direction and redirection to get the best shots.

Why did you choose to embark on this boudoir experience?

After 12 years in a difficult relationship (and 1.5 years of marriage), I found myself divorced at 34. In the year since my separation and divorce, I went on a journey (like anyone would) and found out that I no longer knew who I was. I rediscovered myself and wanted to commemorate this new beginning...my emancipation. I wanted to document this start and celebrate the woman I always knew was there and needed coaxing to come out.

How did you feel when you saw your photos at your reveal?

Shook. I knew it was me - but it was a new me, a more defined and beautiful me. I felt like my outside matched my inside. I rarely cry, but the reveal had me in tears.

What did you come away with from the experience that you didn't expect?

Finally seeing myself the way I want to be seen... powerful, strong, confident and beautiful. No longer a victim... and I got my voice back.

What did you think of your hair/makeup stylist?

Carmilla was incredible! She not only captured the essence of the "look" I wanted, but took it to the next level. I have never felt so "put together" and powerful.

Would you recommend a boudoir session to your friends?

Absolutely, without a doubt! This was the one of the best experiences of my life. And I am obsessed with my photobook. I can't stop looking at it.
